CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The Wyoming Department of Environmental
Quality and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are meeting Wednesday to
discuss a feasibility study for cleaning up a 10- to 14-mile-long
underground plume of solvent that leaked from an abandoned missile
site west of Cheyenne.
Jane Francis is a geological supervisor with the state
Department of Environmental Quality.
She says the study examines different ways to clean up the site
contaminated with trichloroethylene (TRI’-chlor-oh-ETH’-el-een).
The Corps has proposed pumping out groundwater and treating it
before pumping it back into the ground.
