RIVERTON, Wyo. – A sneeze has been cited as the cause of a Thursday afternoon crash that killed one woman and left three others injured. Two of the survivors are from Riverton. They are 44-year-old Brett Hutchison and 22-year-old Tetaten Hutchison. Both are hospitalized at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

The woman who died at the scene was from Ashburn, Virginia. She’s been identified as 52-year-old Lauri Brown. It was the third survivor who blamed the sneeze. James Edward, also a 52-year-old from Ashburn, said his sneeze caused him to jerk his Mercury Sable into the oncoming lane while driving on US 20/26 about 50 miles west of Casper.

The elder Hutchison swerved his Dodge Avenger to avoid the oncoming car, but didn’t make it. The impact sent the Hutchison’s car onto the shoulder where it made a complete revolution.

Airbags deployed in both vehicles. The Hutchisons were not wearing seatbelts. The younger Hutchison was lying in the back seat. The report of the crash came in from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The investigation has been turned over to the Natrona County District Attorney who will make the final decision on whether criminal charges will be filed.
