Motorcycle fatals surge in Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – Motorcycle fatalities in Wyoming are
surging, with 12 people killed since July. Wyoming has already
surpassed total motorcycle deaths for all of last year.
The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that nine of the 12 of the
victims killed since July were not wearing helmets.
Last year, there were 13 motorcycle fatalities statewide, down
from 19 in 2008 and 27 in 2007.
Cheyenne Police Sgt. Rob Dafoe says there are more motorcyclists
on the roads due to their affordability. He says about half of
riders wear helmets.
Authorities are urging more riders to wear helmets, because
motorcycle accidents involving head injuries usually are fatal.
