New Gillette rec center is healthy and growing
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) – Since a $52 million recreation center
opened six months ago in Gillette, the number of users and
memberships has soared.
A total of 189,963 people have been in and out of the Campbell
County Recreation Center since its doors opened to the public March
23. That’s an average of 864 people daily in what is traditionally
a slower time of year, summer.
The Gillette News-Record reports that those numbers include
shortened hours on Saturdays and Sundays, which can skew the
averages a bit. The facility averages from 899 to 930 users Mondays
The former Campbell County rec center averaged 460 people a day.
Campbell County Parks and Recreation Department executive
director Dave McCormick says usage will only increase with the
onset of winter.
