Report shows man stabbed

RIVERTON, Wyo. – A 27-year-old Riverton man was stabbed in the back over the weekend according to a report made to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. That’s all we know. The investigation was turned over to the Bureau of Indian Affairs and that department does not release information on incidents that are under investigation.

Escaped inmate’s drunken binge puts him back in jail

LANDER, Wyo. – The inmate who escaped last week from the Fremont County jail in Lander is back in jail. The Lander woman he kidnapped turned him in after he passed out drunk. 28-year-old Guy Hanway kidnapped the 30-year-old woman, who has not been named by authorities, and forced her to drive him away from the Pine Ridge mental hospital in Lander.

Somewhere along the way, he managed to stop for alcohol and drank himself into a stupor. It was at that point, upon arrival to Billings, Mont. that his hostage purposely drove erratically to draw attention, and it worked. She was stopped by police at which time she jumped out of her car and said she’d been kidnapped.

Hanway was at the hospital undergoing a mental evaluation after trying to commit suicide in the Fremont County jail in Lander. He escaped the building by holding a paint scraper to the throat of a worker then walking to the woman’s house nearby and entering the unlocked back door. Hanway is now jailed at the Yellowstone County Detention Center, charged with kidnapping which may turned into a federal charge because the incident spanned state lines. He was jailed originally on Sept. 24 brought in by the Riverton Police Department on charges of aggravated assault. Due to multiple jurisdictions, the case has been turned over to the FBI.
