Drunk driver could see prison time

By News Director Leslie Drollinger Stratmoen

RIVERTON, Wyo. — A 56-year-old man who’s racked up four drunk driving convictions in the past 10 years, could spend five years in prison for his latest episode.

Authorities say Lydell Thunder got into his Ford Explorer with nearly four times the legal driving limit of alcohol in his system. He then drove about 30 miles from Shoshoni to northwest of Riverton before sliding off Highway 26 and rolling near the National Weather Service station.

He survived the crash and was treated and released from the Riverton hospital, but not before having his blood-alcohol ratio tested. That BAC registered .31. The legal limit is .08. No one else was injured in the crash.

Authorities documented the Nov. 22 incident by an affidavit filed in Fremont County’s Ninth Judicial District Court last month.  According to the document, he’s been charged on two felony counts of driving or having control of a vehicle while under the influence; and misdemeanor charges of driving on a suspended license and driving on roadways laned for traffic.

The two felony charges carry maximum 2 year prison sentences and $10,000 fines. The misdemeanors add another $750 each, and six months each of prison time.
