DEATH UPDATE: Coroner identifies child killed in school lot

By News Director Leslie Stratmoen

LANDER, Wyo. – Yesterday we brought you news that a 3-year-old girl had been hit by a car and killed in the Lander school parking lot. We now know her name. It was Addison Romans of Lander.

Fremont County Coroner Ed McAuslan said this morning she died of injuries to her head and chest. He said she was walking with her mother when she darted in front of a moving vehicle. No charges have been filed against the driver.

The Lander police are investigating the incident. Chief Fred Cox said yesterday he was still trying to piece together what happened through witness statements and by reconstructing the scene with the help of troopers with the Wyoming Highway Patrol. He’s been unavailable today for further comment.

The little girl was hit by the car around 9:30 yesterday morning, according to officials, in the parking lot of the Lander swimming pool which is adjacent to the junior high school.

Students at both the junior high and elementary schools are already getting counseling. The elementary children were included because a class of first graders was swimming at the pool at the time of the incident.
