Lander police investigate possible assault
By News Director Leslie Stratmoen
LANDER, Wyo. — Lander police have reported that a teen-age girl ended up in the emergency room over the weekend following an altercation at a local motel that led to the arrest of three men.
Lander Police Chief Fred Cox was not specific in his report, other than to say the girl was a 15- or 17-year-old who underwent a medical evaluation and the three men who were drinking underage were charged with disobeying a lawful order. They were identified as 20-year-old Kenneth Crawford and 19-year-old Tyvan Chee, both of Riverton, and Stephen Valdez of Ethete. His age was not provided.
The chief said officers were called to the Holiday Inn Sunday morning by a female who said she had locked herself in the bathroom of one of the rooms because several men were in the room and not supposed to be there.
Officers were not able to get into the room when they first arrived because those inside would not let them in. Once inside, they found six intoxicated under-aged drinkers. It was at that point the three who ended up in custody became belligerent by mocking the officers. The Chief said they were told to stay calm and be quiet during the investigation but failed to do so.
