Pilot Bruce Gordon talked about EcoFlight, the company he founded to protect the remaining wild lands and wildlife habitat throughout the world. His company provides an aerial perspective and educational programs that encourage an environmental stewardship ethic among citizens of all ages. News Director Leslie Stratmoen joined him this week for a flight over the Shoshone National Forest for organized by the Wyoming Wilderness Association.
Racers Michael Mellado, Kyle Cunningham and Kyler and Jarrett Green and their mother Amy Green invited listeners to Sunday’s motocross races. The racers will be meeting up northwest of town for the Fremont County Racing Association’s Motocross Championships. Mellado, 19, says it’s the culmination of the racing season, so about 250-300 racers are expected. Racers can still sign up, at the track, from 6-7:30 Saturday night and again, same time, Sunday morning. Races start Sunday morning at 9 and will run most of the day. Gate fees are $5. Camping will be allowed near the track, which is located three miles west of Riverton on Paradise Valley Road off Highway 26. Racers are coming in from several states, including Wyoming. Jarrett Green who’s a seasoned motocross racing 5-year-veteran at age 12 said he races because: “It’s fun.”
Scott Fleur is a horse specialist with the BLM/Honor Farm Horse Adoption set for this weekend in Riverton. He said about 35 halter and saddle-started horses will be available for this adoption sale. Purchase payment can be made by cash or check. Buyers must be ready to haul off the stock, but only stock- or slant-load style covered trailers are authorized. No two- horse trailers are allowed. The specialist said horses are expected to go for as little as a few hundred dollars into the thousands. They can be viewed Saturday morning as soon as the gates open at 7:30. Bidding starts at 10:30. Organizers warn visitors to remember they are coming to a prison grounds. That means no firearms, alcohol, drugs, cigarettes or dogs will be allowed and cell phones, video equipment and cameras must be kept inside locked vehicles. The wild horses come from herds that roam on BLM managed public lands of the western United States. They are protected and managed in accordance with the Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971. Excess animals are offered to the general public for adoption.
