Habitat Build, Disaster Tips, Sobriety Celebration

On Chit Chat, Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011 — listeners learned how to volunteer for the next Habitat build, be prepared if disaster strikes and support those battling with alcohol and drug addiction. Guests were Public Health Response Coordinator Terry Wilson and Emergency Management Director Kathi Metzler, Habitat Director Erin Shirley and Ron Groathouse of the Fremont County Alcohol Crisis Center.

As part of National Preparedness Month, Public Health Response Coordinator Terry Wilson told listeners how to get on a statewide list of volunteers and Emergency Management Director Kathi Metzler described what’s needed for an emergency disaster kit.

Director Erin Shirley of the local Wind River Habitat for Humanity office said volunteers are needed for the next Habitat house build. Anyone who wants to volunteer for work in October, can reach her at 307-857-2997. The ground breaking celebration is set for Saturday, Sept. 24, midday, from 11-1, on the home site at 14th and East Jackson in Riverton. A “Stud Sale” is part of the event, which means 2x4s can be purchased for $10, for people to write personal messages of good will.

Ron Groathouse of the Fremont County Alcohol Crisis Center said a Sobriety Celebration has been planned for Saturday afternoon, Sept. 10, from 2-6, at the Riverton City Park band shell. High Plains Tradition will be providing the music, with special guest – comedian Ron Howard. The event is free and open to the public.
