LANDER, Wyo. — The first event of the 2012 Wyoming State Winter Fair is coming up the first week in January. It’s the Dog Show, set for January 7, at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton. For information or pre-entry, call 856-8271. Entry forms and information are also available online at WyomingStateWinterFair.org.

Curly, a 1 1/2 yr old Australian shepherd mix is waiting to be adopted from the Riverton shelter.

Registration is that morning, from 7:45 to 8:15, followed by the sweepstakes at 8:30. Organizers say the event offers a great opportunity to test your skills and showcase your dog’s talents. You’ll also be picking up tips from other pet owners. In conjunction with the dog show, there’ll be a rescue parade featuring dogs from the Riverton Animal Adoption Center. Concessions will be provided by the Wrangler 4H Club, open until about 2 in the afternoon.

Next up will be the livestock and horse shows at the Lander Old Timers Rodeo Arena in Rodeo Drive in Lander. They’re in February – the livestock on Feb. 25 and horses on Feb. 26.

The event culminates with a trade show, held March 1-3, at the Lander high school. Vendors who need applications can also find them online or make arrangements to have one sent out by calling 332-4011.
