George Joseph Corry of Lander

George Joseph Corry passed from this life into the next on January 17, 2012. George was a very exceptional person and beloved father. He was very devoted to family. He enjoyed his job and treasured his friends. He loved having picnics and going on hikes with his family, reading, listening to piano music and puttering around the house and yard.
A Catholic Mass is being arranged for with the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Please feel free to contact Hudson’s Funeral Home about the time, 332-2221.  George was born April 29, 1921 to Florence Marie (Fendrich) and Harry Joseph Corry at Wind River, Wyoming (Fort Washakie). His family transferred to Billings, MT in 1922. George attended grade school for eight years at Fratt Memorial Parochial School. He graduated from Billings High School in 1939. He attended Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, from 1940 to 1943. During this time he met Arlene Weedman. He enlisted in the Marine Corp and served for 38 months during WWII. George and Arlene were married in December 1944 in San Diego, CA. They were married for almost 62 years. When George returned from the war they returned to Bozeman and he graduated from MSU with his bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering in 1948. He worked in commercial refrigeration and electrical construction in Montana prior to being employed as Practice Engineer in the utilities department at US Steel’s Geneva Works at Provo, UT. He was transferred to US Steel’s Utah Ore Operations in 1954 as an electrical engineer in Cedar City, UT. In 1957 he became the General Foreman of Maintenance and Utilities. In 1968 the family was transferred to US Steel’s Atlantic City Ore Operations in Lander, WY where George was employed as Electrical General Foreman of Maintenance and Utilities. He retired in 1983 as Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance and Utilities.  George and Arlene had four children; Beth Corry (Lompoc, CA), Jan Corry (Evansville, WY), Robert G. Corry and his wife Judeth Corry (Manvel, TX) and John R. Corry (deceased).  George was preceded in death by Arlene and son John Richard. George is survived by his three children, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many loving and beloved nieces and nephews.
