Ocean Lake gets 400 Christmas trees for fish habitat

RIVERTON, Wyo.Lucy Wold of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department said volunteers battled high winds to place about 400 Christmas trees on the ice covering Ocean Lake west of Riverton recently.

She said the trees will serve as much needed fish habitat when they fall to the bottom of the lake during spring thaw.

The effort’s part of a tree project that’s been going on now for about a quarter of a century and is a great way, she said, to use the cut live trees that would ordinarily end up in a landfill. The trees sink to the bottom because they’re bundled together and weighted by cement blocks.
