BOCES students help build school bleachers

RIVERTON, Wyo. – New seating at the District 25 Wolverine field in Riverton is going in, with the help of volunteers from the United Parcel Service and students from the BOCES Green Construction Program.
BOCES Coordinator Rajean Strube-Fossen said the project was a perfect fit for the five high school students because it offered experience working with adults and new materials.
The new material was aluminum. So, she said, installation was like piecing together “a huge Erector set.”
She and Tim Hampton supervised the students who were Chancy McKiernan, Danny Middelstadt, John Schmidt, Jason York and Keith Sack. Volunteers from UPS included Rich Lange, Justin Long, Brett Renke, Tom Yates, Mark Wixom, Ryan Hugus, Floyd Reinhardt, Randy Duffy, Bobbie Acosta and Joyce Blankenship.
School activities Director Keith Bauder said the bleachers went up on the visitor’s side and will seat about 500 people. Seating on the home side to be installed this summer will be for 1,700, which will bring the total seating capacity at the field to 2,200.
BOCES is the Board of Cooperative Education Services agency that provides alternative classes in the schools of Fremont County.
