Several shots fired

By KVOW/KTAK News Director Leslie Stratmoen

RIVERTON, Wyo. — Further details have been released about the fatal shooting last week at an apartment on the southeast side of Riverton. An affidavit filed in circuit court by Det. Sgt. Julie Mathews of the Riverton Police Department states that the victim, 27-year-old Lucas Myhre, was shot three times – once in the head and twice in the chest. He died at the scene.

Detectives believe the shots were fired from within the apartment or near its entryway. The victim’s body was found lying face down on the pavement outside the apartment and three bullet holes were found in a Ford Explorer parked just beyond — in its windshield, grill and bumper.

In connection with the incident, police were called to the apartment at 811 E. Adams Ave., at 9:30 Thursday night on a report of multiple gunshots being fired in the area. The screaming voices of several females could be heard on the line.

As reported earlier, the suspected shooter was identified as 23-year-old Dustin Nickelson. He was arrested at the scene after pointing detectives to the gun left on the couch inside the apartment. Det. Sgt. Mathews described the weapon as a .45-caliber ACP Sar handgun.

Nickelson’s been charged with murder in the second degree. It’s a felony charge that carries at least 20 years of prison. Bail was set at one million dollars. His court appearance was set for Friday.
