Gould gets prison time for child sex abuse

RIVERTON, Wyo. – We being today’s broadcast with news coming from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cheyenne. According to a release, we’ve learned that a local man is going to prison for sexually abusing a child over a year’s time on the Wind River Reservation in Fremont County. 34-year-old Michael James Gould has been sentenced by a federal court judge to 17 years in prison on a single count of abusive sexual contact of a child.

The charge stemmed from abuse that occurred from April of 2006 to April of 2007. The victim was identified only, by authorities, as an 8-year-old. The charge carried a maximum penalty of life in prison and a $250,000 fine, or both. Gould will be facing a life-term of supervised release and was ordered to pay fines of $600.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation because the incident happened on the reservation. Gould was prosecuted under federal law because he’s an enrolled member of the reservation’s Northern Arapaho Tribe.
