No Yellowstone Bison Vaccination

Submitted by rebecca on March 27, 2014 – 1:46 pmNo Comment
(Jackson) – National Park Service Intermountain Regional Director Sue Masica signed a Record of Decision to not implement a remote vaccination program to address brucellosis in Yellowstone bison.
The no-action alternative is supported by most engaged American Indian Tribes, the Intertribal Buffalo Council and the conclusions of a February 2013 Bison/Brucellosis Science panel.
The currently authorized syringe vaccination of bison calves and yearlings periodically captured along the northern boundary of Yellowstone National Park will continue.
Brucellosis is a disease that can infect domestic livestock causing cows to abort their calves.
