Wyoming Catholic College Granted Stay

(Lander) – The Lander-based Wyoming Catholic College has been granted a temporary stay with regard to health insurance requirements that would force the institution to provide coverage for contraceptives including abortion inducing drugs under the Affordable Care Act.

Wyoming Catholic College says the Health and Human Services mandate violates the First Amendment and federal law by forcing Catholics to sacrifice their beliefs in order to comply with Obamacare.

A statement from the college says the stay is tied directly to the fact that the insurer, Christian Brothers, is the same provider as that of the Little Sisters of the Poor, whose ongoing litigation is pending before the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

College President Dr. Kevin Roberts says the battle is far from over but he is pleased with the early victory.
